Client/Designer Objective
Late in 2007 ion made the strategic decision to update its ten-year-old, award-winning logo, identity and collateral system. The new suite of material was envisioned to include a custom pocket folder, several saddle-stitched collateral books, and a newly designed identity. Important mandates for this project were that all of the paper should be 100% recycled and that the new color specifications should be as consistent as possible across spot, CMYK and RGB color spaces. Pantone’s Goe System was released days before design began and proved to be a key to the project’s success.
The result is a multi-piece set of mixed color space pieces—some in CMYK and some spot—that work together beautifully. Double hits of the orange jump off the 92 brightness 100% recycled sheet. The crisp diecuts and richly embossed folder cradle over 40 pages of engaging case study, platform and white paper collateral. Powerful direct-mail postcards use the signature orange to get attention and to define the brand. Color is the star in this carefully crafted update of ion’s brand. Pantone’s Goe System made it easy to consistently achieve an elusive bright orange and soft black across a variety of media and two different, simultaneous printers.
Goe Colors Utilized
PANTONE 13-1-7 C and PANTONE 165-1-3 C. Additional processes applied include double hits on the 13-1-7 C, embossed folder cover, custom diecut folder and business cards, and aqueous coating on the folder and business cards.
